Corazon's Educational Program: Building a Sustainable Community

Corazón is raising environmental awareness through education and community outreach. Sustainability is the common thread throughout our K-12 School Curriculum. A project-based approach, allowing children to acquire skills while becoming interested in careers related to Environmental Protection - reforestation, organic growing, biology, wildlife preservation, marine biology, bee-keeping, equine therapy and more...

Reforestation

Ranchito Corazón has 80+ trees, 35 of which are different fruit trees and we keep planting! Our goal is to create an authentic food forrest - a place of healing, nourishment, creativity, learning and discovery.

Growing our own food

ree

There is so much to learn from growing ones's own food.  Soil and water quality, seasons to plant and harvest, food value, vitamins and minerals - a huge learning opportunity integrating math, science, composting, sustainability, research and resourcefullness, planning, budgeting, organization, perseverance, mindfulness, resonsibility, problem-solving, physical activity, boundaries, appreciation for and knowledge of healthy food consumption, a connection with Nature - all of this by simply planting a school vegetable garden.

Constructivist Approach to Math = Accelerated Learning

ree

Alexa has acquired a love for Math, also learning to read, write, add and subtract in under six months with Corazón accelerated, personalized and integrated approach to learning focussing on the individual needs and learning styles of each student, assisting with those needing additional support to overcome emotional barriers, building self-esteem and solid foundations in Math and Reading.

CIME (Centro Integrado de Métodos Educativos), a Constructivist Educational Model for Math at Corazón's K-12 Green School, has been used by us now with great success for seven years, allowing students to deepen their knowledge beyond rote memorization, developing a meaningful context to comprehend content, and take command of the learning process as an active participant rather than a passive observer. Abilities and achievement are monitored and celebrated daily!
